Night shifts
Model the morning after a night shift.
A roster may call the date after a night shift an off day even though the worker finishes in the morning and needs sleep. Overlap Days lets each person reserve a configurable number of hours after an N shift.
Example
A night shift runs from 19:00 Monday to 07:00 Tuesday. With eight recovery hours, the unavailable interval continues until 15:00 Tuesday. The result can still show a shared Tuesday evening without labelling Tuesday as a full day together.
Choosing a value
- 0 hours: literal work-roster comparison only.
- 4–8 hours: reserve part of the next day for sleep or decompression.
- Longer values: use when the participant does not consider the post-shift date practically available.
The setting is subjective. It does not estimate fatigue, health risk or medical recovery needs.
What it does not model
The tool does not automatically include commuting, preparation before work, naps before a night shift, rotating sleep habits or individual health conditions. Add a conservative recovery value when scheduling something costly or difficult to change.
